fanaa
Well, I’m accused of making money out of the debate on reservation. For a change, let me post something different [to make more money? ;)].

I went to watch Fanaa, primarily to see Kajol……but there were many surprises in hold. And indeed they all left a very good impression together. Of course, I did miss my poet-friend Sukhvinder while the hero and heroine conversed in shayaries. And yes, there is lots of mushy romanticism and unrealism to satiate anyone.

I liked the movie for the beautiful Kashmir valley, for making a terrorist the hero, the character of Malini Tyagi that Taboo played and for the big surprise that the theatre in Hyderabad where I watched it had pieces of paper to be blown in the air for Amir and Kajol in equal amounts……good return after a break for marriage!

hi smrti, i have been reading your site with interest for quite some time now (especially after the reservation debate started). don’t tell the story of fanaa completely since we are all waiting to see the movie.
i find it very interesting that aamir khan has doused the reservation fire in the media (of all people). the channels are running after the bollywood stars now. and, irony of ironies, the anti-reservationists call their movement “the rang-de-basanti effect.”

    Bindu,

If Rang-de-Basanti aroused anti-reservation movement, I dont know what Fanaa would do. Amir has a totally different role here.
As you said, it did help, at least for the time being, for anti-reservation drive in media to cease – “fana ho gayi”.

Thanks for reading my blog with interest, hope you would offer your comments as well.

    Bombay Addict,

    Thanks fo ryour comment.
But I’m surprised to see in your blog that you have put my blog in the list of those who hate this movie……but I DID like it! and that’s what I wrote in the blog…….

Please there is indeed lots of mushy stuff, but on the whole I liked the movie. I liked it for all the reason stated in the post here and more for the way nationalist symbols like Jana Gana Mana and Rahul Dravid are used….seemingly very light-hearted and superficial, but very poignant. For example, how would an islamic terrorist would feel when he knows that his son has adapted Rahul Dravid as the father, because he is more “dependable”! Good work. I’m ready to watch it once again.

Hi Smriti – Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m sorry if I’ve not quoted you properly, and will change it asap to “On the whole I liked the movie” (hope that’s fine?).

And hey, this is not a list of Fanaa-haters !! take a closer look and you’ll find a lot of people who’ve really liked the movie – the first one itself, then there’s #19, #20, #25, #35, #21, etc. In fact I’ve refrained from dividing the reviews under for and against, because I don’t think that’s the right thing to do. The intention of my blogroll is just to give a comprehensive list of all the views and reviews on the movie in the blogosphere.

Once again – sorry, if I’ve given your the wrong impression and do visit again, I’m making the change asap. Thanks.

    Srini,
Thanks for the comment, but so sorry to know that you didn’t and won’t watch the movie. Is there any particular reason for your choice not to watch it?

    Dear Smrti,

I happened to watch this movie “fanaa” without expecting much from it. Infact i was so much impressed with the story (the way a blind girl expected someone to love her, the blossom of love in her and her nasty decission to hand around with a guide…etc). But this movie was very soft and colorfull. I loved the photography and each and every piece is this movie is interesting. I guess the audience enjoyed Amir Khan in the begining as a Tourist Guide. This way of flirting was superb and coming to the way of conversations…….i guess this is the only movie that released recently with soo much of touching/loving shayaries…………..GOD……i just love to hear those romantic quotes.

Good work done by all the people behind this movie……….Keep up such a good work. We expect same movies from Hindi again with different themes. Atleast women wont expose their body much on the screen from now on…….Keep up this spirit gals……

    Hi Smrti!!

I watched this movie ‘coz I like Aamirkhan. But Kajol is also a reason. But the important thing is that I wanted to know how aamir worked in this movie n what he has done for his famous Eye for Detail…….. n you can see his lips in the last scene after running from zooni’s house to colonel’s house…. that shows his commitment….. His lips look exactly how they ll look if someone runs such a distance…. n shayaries and the songs are good n entertaining……..

    Vinod,
Glad to know that you liked Fanaa. By the way, is it known in Kuwait that the movie is banned in some states in India. Too bad. Thanks for your comment.

    Vish,
Glad to hear that you too went for the movie for Kajol as well. Rarely do women resume acting after marriage and pregnancy fearing that they will be rejected. Cheers for Kajol!

Yes, I indeed noticed the lip detail in the final scenes, good work!

Howdy this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML.
I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding expertise so I wanted
to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
