Went for a Telugu movie after a long time…….Godavari.
We should have seleted a better theatre with a better screen. That too when we had spend Rs.100 [That’s still a hefty amount for movie tickets in Hyderbad] and already got some very poor service from the great PVR Theatre! But the movie experience made me forget that I had to write some real bad comments in their feedback form.
The movie: Yes, light, breezy, romantic. And there is the picturesque backdrop of Godavari whipping up an idyllic nostalgia for the “uncorrupted” countryside, peppered with images of Hyderabad cityscape, thankfully, not in a judgemental opposition.
Many of the story threads with which the movie started were forgotten by the middle of the movie…like the hero forgets that his mission is to become a politician, the poor boy who gets into the yatch to avenge forgets his aim as well. Factional political violence is introduced in the plot but had to be somehow wound up etc etc. The brightest point of the movie is the lively motley, including talking animals with a real good sense of humour, aboard who enliven the plot. But most of them are forgotten once love starts blooming and that’s where the movie begins to drag…. and drag. But I would want to go back home with images of the talking dogs, witty dialogues, some attempts – though poor – to address caste in everyday life, a non-traditional heroine etc. etc. Thanks, Director Shekar Kammula
Didn’t knew that this movie had talking animals too. I did not like “Anand” from Shekar and I guessed I might not like this one too. But recently when a couple of my friends asked to accompany them to this movie I couldn’t go as I was busy. Later I thought I should have gone with them. But thanks to your post, I think I made the right decision.
Somehow, the movie Anand was cloyingly sweet and too cute for me to handle. But it was definetly a very good movie when compared to the trash that tollywood produces week after week.
Kishan,
If you didnt like Anand, the probably you wouldnt like this movie too. Though I havnt seen Anand, I’m told that both are from the same mould.
Did you go for Pokiri? That’s definitely not a sweet and cute movie.

thanx
that’s a splendid movie
Nice to know your comments on Shekhar kammula’s Godavari, that’s right, movie got deviated in between, if you watch the movie we can see that Godavari has a very poor storyline. But the movie has one strong point i.e. its direction all credit goes to the director for making this movie a hit.
Honestly I rented DVD and watched film Anand, could not appreciate anything in that movie In fact I could not watch complete movie it was real boring.
Hence I had not many expectation from Godavari.
Only plus point of this movie is its music and direction.
I used to criticize most of the movies before but looking at current trend of Indian Cinema I started appreciating movies like Godavari.

Is it difficult to get telugu speaking actresses? Most movies seem to have dubbed heroines who don’t speak telugu.
