Why is a homepage called a homepage?
Are all journeys started from homes?
Do all homes act as anchoring points for explorations?
Are they always good places to return to?
What makes a homepage a home to other pages?

    That is the precise problem Abhi. Not everybody has a home……..so isnt it a bit cruel to say that all journeys should necessarily start from homes?
    But I dont know if that is the reason a homepage is called a homepage.
    What could have been the genesis of the word?

    it is indeed a place to begin with and snapshot of what you can look for or place to restart.

    Remember you get to home page whenever you are lost, confused, look at what all you can get to see.

    It is most of the times attractive to ensure revist

    Thanks for the comment Skee. I agree with it. We do go back to the first page to restart and it works as an anchoring point when we are lost.
    But is that the reason the page is called ‘home’page?
    Should we take for granted that homes guide us whenever we are lost and confused?
    Are we taking the meaning of ‘home’ for granted?
    What about a majority of those for whom home may not be such a pleasant idea?
    I was just curious about the term ‘home’page, not its function.

    Home may not guide us everytime. But that is defenitley a place where you can look for guidance. It may not be the best or the one you’ll finally take up. but rest assured, you’ll get one.

    Route to home is one which is embedded in us where ever we go/ whatever we do. We may choose to take it or not but it is always “there”
    May be that is one more reason.

    Also remember, No one start browsing by clicking on Home. It assumes importance once we start. So it is not a place to start. it is a place where you can go back. May not be the right place. But still a place which is embedded on us.
